Blue Ridge Brand Lava Rock is available in 4 different sizes ranges. Small – 3/4 to 1 Inch, Medium – 1 to 2 Inch, Large – 2 to 3 Inch, and Extra Large – 3 to 4 Inch. FIRE PIT ROCK WARNING – All forms of volcanic rock have the ability to trap moisture and fracture or pop upon rapid heating. Lava stones are not recommended for use in a fire pit. If using lava pebbles in any heated application, the heat must be applied gradually and at a low level to release any internal moisture slowly to avoid potential steam buildup inside of the rock. In rare instances, wet lava rock can trap moisture and fracture or pop upon rapid heating. – Due to the natural nature of lava pebbles, when they are exposed to humidity, they can turn darker shades of gray and can appear black. At times, lava pebbles can pick up moisture in the air even when they have not been exposed to rain or other water sources. The darker the lava pebble, the more water or moisture it has retained. A dry lava pebble will be light to medium gray in color. /p
